This was a very tough time for Fred. The VA records, obtained by FOIA request, and conversations with family members make that very clear. Fred seemed to be stymied at every turn, and he was unable to convince the VA that he was telling the truth about Buchenwald, his appendicitis attacks, and the levels of abuse he'd been subjected to.
