Chapter 1: 12 June 1944, Great Ashfield, England

In reconstructing the events on this pivotal day, I had the advantage of being able to spend 3 days with Loren E. Jackson, Fred's pilot. Over hours of interviews we discussed Loren's training, his flight logs, the trip to the ETO, missions at the 385th BG, and the flight on 12 June 1944. I also had the mission planning documents and after-mission reports for Mission 407 from the 8th Air Force HQ, and the 385th Bomb Group  papers associated with this mission, which was for them Mission 132.
