Epilogue

Little has changed since that section was written, other than the deaths of several of the surviving airmen. As far as I can determine, only James Stewart and Don Shearer are still alive. Soon all 168 will be gone, and in another decade their children will join them, and then there will be no-one motivated to challenge the officially distorted histories of the Buchenwald airmen and the Paperclip Germans. The US Air Force does acknowledge the existence of the Buchenwald airmen, and their transport by boxcar, but the exhibit shows the men fit, healthy, and in crisp uniforms, many wearing A-4 leather flight jackets.
